Liminal Space

Do you sometimes
feel that you are
barely holding on?

On one side, the
life you led for
years and years,
and that seemed
happy, and that
seemed successful,
and in which you
worked hard to
convince yourself that
this was your right life,
but in which the
connections to those
you met along the way
were just gossamer,
and almost always
mostly one-dimensional,
or if you were lucky
maybe more, but
never truly meaningful,
and never allowing you
to feel loved or whole.

And then somehow
you discovered new
parts of yourself, and
you found the voices
of the world around you,
and you felt the
energy from everywhere,
from other people, and
from all the animals, and
from the birds, and
the insects, and from
the growing things,
especially the trees, and
also from the earth, even
the stones of the earth,
also from the sky, and
from the stars, and
from places you can’t
really define or see,
but you know are there,
and always have been there,
and always will be there.

The beginning of a
new way of being
a part of everything.

Suddenly, though,
as sometimes happens,
you don’t really know
how or why, you
entirely lost your way,
you lost the thread,
the energies that
brought you to that
new everything were
lost to you, and
now you are alone
in a way you have
never felt alone before.

Not able to breathe
in the old world, and
no longer able to reach
that special new one,
where you actually
feel like you belong,
no longer seeing any
path to everything,
caught in yet one
more liminal space on
your journey to your future.

Lost, and frightened,
and barely holding on.
